$16.00/hr – $18.00/hr

Job Description

The Land Management Technician will be responsible for several aspects of the day-to-day land management and ecological restoration activities at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum. This is a seasonal position lasting from May through September 2025 and will require the ability to assist with fieldwork throughout the growing season.

Under the supervision of Hawthorn Hollow’s Ecologist, the Land Management Technician will:

Conduct invasive species removal through multiple methods including herbicide application, weed whacking/mowing, and chainsaw operation.

Be responsible for seed collection and planting/maintaining native plant communities. Assistance with ongoing erosion control projects and restoration implementation.

Maintain Hawthorn Hollow’s current 5-mile trail system and build new trails as needed.

Required

Education and Experience

Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or related natural resources field.

Preference will also be given to candidates who have completed a chainsaw safety training course and have herbicide application experience.

Required Skills

2+ years of experience in the environmental field.

Chainsaw and power tool knowledge (preferred).

Vegetation management knowledge.

Heavy equipment operation and maintenance (preferred).

Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Ability to do manual labor, including lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting. Work will require the Technician to work outdoors in varying terrains in occasionally harsh temperature conditions.

Hours and Compensation

Tuesday – Friday from 9am to 3pm.

Average 24 hours per week.

$16 – $18 per hour (depending on experience).
