Questions
Position Summary
Performs routine manual labor duties of an unskilled nature in grounds maintenance. Trims foliage, clears brush, rakes, and pulls weeds, gathers trash and debris. Plants trees, flowers, and shrubbery by burying roots and puddling water and soil around roots. Performs manual labor in seeding, hoeing, cultivating, and generally maintaining lawns and grounds. On a limited basis, may mow, edge, and weed-eat.
May drive a city vehicle to carry out duties. May clear parks of patrons prior to closing. Reports damage or suspicious activity. Works outside in all weather. Sets out temporary traffic control devices to provide safe and efficient traffic flow. Performs custodial duties in park facilities. May work in a crew under supervision or be assigned to a park area with varying shifts including weekends and holidays.
Performs other related tasks as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Some experience in manual labor maintenance and/or construction work desired. Previous experience in lawn/landscaping maintenance preferred. Labor-intensive position with the ability to move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Ability to operate mowers, edgers and string trimmers preferred. Ability to perform cemetery and turf maintenance. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Ability to work without close supervision.
Ability to utilize good public relation skills. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, coworkers, and other agencies. Knowledge of the geography of city parks. Ability to keep simple records. Must be able to see, hear, talk, climb, push, pull, bend, lift, kneel and follow oral instructions. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
