Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality veterinary care to our canine and feline patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and possess the necessary skills to assist in various veterinary procedures and daily operations. This position can be full or part time, with some flexibility in scheduling. Candidates preferring full time should be available for ten hour shifts, and rotating Saturdays.
Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians during examinations and medical procedures.
Handle and restrain animals safely to ensure their comfort and safety, and the safety of coworkers.
Perform routine laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including sterilization of instruments.
Provide basic animal care, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
Document patient information accurately in medical records.
Assist with X-ray procedures as needed.
Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with cleanings.
Candidates with proficiency setting IV catheters, drawing blood, taking radiographs and monitoring anesthesia or those cross trained to reception would receive higher compensation.
Qualifications
At least 6 months of experience in a Veterinary facility is required. Candidates with primarily Veterinary receptionist/front office experience will be considered.
Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal care practices is essential.
Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment is a plus.
Skills in animal restraint techniques to ensure safe handling during examinations is required.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
