Location: Brighton, CO

Position: Full-time/part-time Kennel Technician

Hours: 32-40 hours per week. Full-Time/part-time (weekday, early evening and weekends, some overnights) with the flexibility to work with additional hours when needed.

Job Description:

The Kennel Technician is responsible for caring for all the rescued pets at Lifeline Puppy Rescue as well as assisting the Outreach and Foster teams as needed.

The transport driver is responsible for managing the transportation of puppies while on the road.

Kennel Assistant Day to Day Responsibilities:

Facilities:

  • Cleaning, maintenance and sanitizing of kennels, associated equipment and outside areas of grounds (e.g. bowls, toys, runs, sinks, laundry, trash, etc.).
  • Assists with ordering / maintaining inventory.

Animals:

  • Ensuring food and water are provided to the animals.
  • Maintains an inventory of animals, equipment and supplies.
  • Screens and observes animals for illness and reports any health or behavioral issues to supervisor immediately.
  • Provides treatment to sick/injured animals or contact veterinarian to administer treatment.
  • Updates animal information in shelter software.
  • Schedules and transports animals to appointments.
  • Conducts disposition assessments and planning for the individual animals.
  • Maintains list of fostered animals and their foster families.
  • Conducts home visits as needed.
  • Inputs into and maintains foster data in appropriate logs

Customers:

  • Responds to questions and assist customers with finding their forever pet.
  • Assists and answers phones as needed.
  • Diffuses customer concerns and directs to the appropriate member for assistance.
  • Provides ongoing assistance, coaching and support to foster families
  • Assists with medical care of the animals in LPR’s care
  • Contributes as needed to marketing and special event activities

Other:

  • Ability to be on-call for shelter emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Driver Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Reach scheduled transportation pick-up, drop-off locations punctually
  • Cleaning, maintenance and sanitizing of van, kennels, associated equipment
  • Ensures animals are transported safely
  • Ensuring food and water are provided to the animals when necessary
  • Maintains an inventory of animals, equipment and supplies.
  • Screens and observes animals for illness and reports any health or behavioral issues to supervisor immediately.
  • Provides care to sick/injured animals or veterinarian to administer treatment.
  • Ability to drive for long periods of time, continuously alone or with a partner
  • Possess great people skills (know how to talk to people and be respectful)
  • Experience driving a van preferred
  • Ability to move in and out of large cargo vans
  • Ability to clean/sanitize kennels with feces, urine and vomit as required
  • Ability to ride/drive with occasional loud background noise
  • Ability to follow transportation safety protocol and handling procedures
  • Ability to be in a moving van in some cases, 48 hours or more, with multiple animals
  • Ability to constantly communicate with multiple people
  • Ability to problem solve and make educated decisions

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service/relations with both internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates active listening skills and is socially perceptive.
  • Demonstrates good English reading, writing and phone skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 + years of experience of kennel/shelter experience. (Pay is DOE)
  • Some experience with health care or animal welfare.
  • Kennel Assistant certification preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be in good physical condition as the position requires extensive walking and lifting, squatting

Ability to work outdoors and indoors in various types of weather (e.g. snow, heat, wind, etc.)

Must have good hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, ability to kneel, stoop and bend.

Ability to work in a noisy environment with unfavorable odors.

Subject to hazardous chemicals.

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to walk up and down stairs and on unpaved/uneven grounds.

Pay: From $17.50 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35.0 per week
