Job Description – Full Transparency
Thank you for your interest in joining Happy Dawgz Boarding. Before applying, please understand that this job is not all rainbows and sunshine just because it involves working with dogs. Yes, it’s a privilege to be around dogs every day, but this is a labor-intensive and physically demanding role where your top priority is to provide safe, structured, and consistent care for all the dogs in our facility.
We board both rescue and public dogs, which means we care for dogs from all backgrounds—including dogs with behavioral challenges, anxiety, or semi-feral traits. You must have not only a love for animals but the skill, discipline, and work ethic to care for them properly.
The Non-Negotiable Requirements:
You MUST be comfortable handling shy, reactive, or semi-feral dogs.
You MUST be able to lift and carry dogs up to 50 lbs, especially when they’re hesitant to move or need assistance.
You MUST be capable of heavy lifting, including hauling large food bags, water buckets, and cleaning supplies.
You MUST be comfortable working in all weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, muddy—dogs still need to go outside.
You MUST have common sense and strong communication skills—we rely on teamwork and awareness to keep dogs and staff safe.
You need to be fast-paced, able to multitask, and stay focused and alert at all times.
You MUST understand animal behavior and know how to read dog body language.
You MUST be okay with getting dirty—this is physical, on-your-feet work.
You MUST be okay with cleaning up poop, pee, vomit, and large messes. Dogs are dogs—and some will throw poop, pee, or vomit, or even do it on you.
Showering/bathing dogs is part of the job and is required when needed.
Cleaning crates and kennels thoroughly and regularly is a daily task.
You are also expected to help clean and maintain the yard—this includes picking up after the dogs, rinsing surfaces, and ensuring a clean play area.
You MUST also be comfortable speaking to customers and walking them through the property when they come in for tours or drop-offs.
Dog walking, cuddling, and playing with the dogs is also part of your job—and it’s one of the most rewarding parts—but it is not your only role here.
Your primary responsibility is maintaining a safe, clean, and structured environment for the dogs in our care.
This job is rewarding but not for the faint of heart. It requires physical strength, emotional patience, attention to detail, and true dedication to animal care. If you do not have prior professional experience working with dogs, this position is not the right fit. We need someone experienced, dependable, and confident.
If you’ve got the experience, stamina, and passion to give these dogs the care they deserve—we’d love to hear from you.
