Responsibilities:

At Hanover Humane Society, Kennel-Technicians have a big responsibility. They provide both our animals for adoption, and our boarding client dogs, with their exercise, attention, feeding, sanitation, and medication requirements. They have to follow rigorous safety and sanitation policies throughout the facility. This calls for constant inspection of the assigned areas for sanitation, safety – and replenishment of water, food, and bedding as needed. Communication with other technicians and supervisors is critically important and includes keeping the supervisors appraised of the animals’ emotional and physical condition, updating the animals’ records daily, and being knowledgeable of all the animals on the premises.

Essential Functions:

· Follow written and oral instructions to feed and medicate animals

· Conduct self with professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment

· Handle, exercise, and control large and/or difficult dogs and cats

· Be able to lift 50 lbs unaided

· Work in both a team and a self-directed environment

· SHOW UP FOR WORK/BE PUNCTUAL/HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION – seriously… there’s no “blowing off” a shift or dragging in an hour late with this job – the animals are here 24/7 and need their food, their medication, and their cages cleaned. In some cases it can be life or death. BY APPLYING FOR THIS JOB YOU ARE STATING THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET TO WORK EVEN IN INCLEMENT WEATHER(i.e. snow, sleet, etc.).

This job can be physically demanding at times – it’s in a kennel. It’s a high noise area. You’ll be exposed to animal feces, urine, dander, hair, cleaning chemicals, fumes, and dust.
