Job Summary

As a Junior Wildlife Field Biologist with Jacobs, you will provide technical direction and support for wildlife biology components of environmental projects across Western Canada. You will be mentored and conduct field surveys, assisting multidisciplinary teams in planning, permitting, and construction support for government and private infrastructure projects.

Location & Travel

Based in Burnaby (Lower Mainland), Calgary, or Edmonton. The role involves approximately 80% field work and 20% office work, including travel up to 2–3 weeks at a time in remote locations, overnight stays in hotels or project camps.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct wildlife surveys and support field work for other biophysical disciplines.
  • Assist in environmental planning, permitting, and construction support efforts.
  • Provide technical direction and support for wildlife biology components of projects.
  • Maintain safety standards and use required PPE.

Qualifications

  • Minimum degree or diploma in biology or related environmental discipline.
  • Experience conducting biological or environmental work in outdoor settings.
  • Comfortable working remotely for up to 2–3 weeks with overnight stays.
  • Strong interest in wildlife, especially bird, amphibian, and track identification in Western Canada.
  • Positive attitude, self‑motivated, and team‑oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean 3‑year driving abstract.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of wetlands, soils, rare plants, weeds, water quality monitoring, or fisheries.
  • Experience using mobile field‑data apps such as Esri Field Maps or Survey 123.
  • Experience reviewing digital field data in web or desktop solutions.
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental legislation in Western Canada.
  • Working toward or holding a Professional Designation with the BC College of Applied Biology or Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
  • Quality data collection skills and ability to work in varied terrain and weather.
  • Experience driving 4×4 trucks on remote gravel roads.

Compensation

Posted salary range: $55,200.00 – $86,325.00. Compensation reflects minimum and maximum targets across British Columbia, Canada locations and is determined by location and relevant experience.

Contract Details

Initial 6‑ to 9‑month contract or full‑time, with potential extension or conversion based on workload and skill set.
