Peston Media, an online digital media division of Peston Entertainment Limited, a Peston Group company, is looking for an experienced Journalist who can work as a Presenter and Writer across Peston Media’s digital platforms.
The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, developing, writing and presenting engaging journalistic content for digital audiences. The role requires someone who is confident both in front of the camera and behind the story, with the ability to identify relevant topics, conduct interviews, develop compelling stories and work with the production team to deliver professional digital media content.
Role Description:
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Dar es Salaam.
The Journalist will contribute to the development and growth of Peston Media’s digital platforms, including its YouTube channel and social media platforms, by producing informative, credible and engaging content.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and present content covering areas such as business, economy, real estate, agribusiness, technology, entrepreneurship, corporate developments, investment, current affairs and other topics relevant to Peston Media’s audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, identify and propose relevant news stories, features, interviews and digital content ideas.
- Write clear, accurate and engaging news stories, feature stories, scripts and other editorial content.
- Present programmes, interviews, reports and other content confidently on camera.
- Conduct professional interviews with business leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, public figures, industry experts and other relevant sources.
- Prepare interview questions, programme scripts, story outlines and research briefs.
- Conduct field reporting and attend events, press conferences, interviews and other assignments where required.
- Produce voice-overs and narration for news features, documentaries and other digital productions.
- Work closely with videographers, video editors, photographers, graphic designers and the wider production team.
- Participate in the development of original programmes, documentaries, interviews, business features and other Peston Media productions.
- Verify facts, sources and information before publication.
- Monitor current affairs, business developments and emerging stories that may be relevant to Peston Media audiences.
- Adapt long-form stories and programmes into content suitable for YouTube and social media platforms.
- Maintain accuracy, fairness, professionalism and responsible journalistic standards.
- Assist in developing a consistent content pipeline and editorial calendar for Peston Media.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Broadcasting, Communications or another relevant field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in journalism, reporting, broadcasting, digital media or a related media role.
- Strong journalism, research and news-writing skills.
- Strong interviewing and storytelling abilities.
- Confidence and professional presence in front of the camera.
- Previous experience as a presenter, reporter, digital journalist or broadcast journalist will be an added advantage.
- Ability to write scripts and develop stories for video and digital audiences.
- Good understanding of YouTube, social media and modern digital-media consumption.
- Ability to identify interesting stories rather than relying solely on assigned topics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
- Good understanding of journalistic ethics, fact-checking and responsible reporting.
- Strong command of both English and Kiswahili, written and spoken.
- Basic understanding of video production and digital content creation will be an added advantage.
