Practice Advanced Emergency Medicine
As a member of our Emergency Department, you’ll work alongside highly skilled emergency clinicians and specialists, managing a wide variety of cases ranging from urgent care visits to life-threatening emergencies. Our ER is led by Dr. Tracy Schlicksup (DABVP), whose focus on clinical excellence, mentorship, and team development has helped create one of the region’s most respected emergency veterinary programs. You’ll gain experience with:

Primary Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients.
- Administer medications and complete treatments as ordered.
- Monitor patient status and promptly communicate changes to the attending veterinarian.
- Perform blood collection, IV catheter placement, diagnostic testing, and other clinical procedures based on experience and skill level.
- Maintain patient cleanliness, comfort, mobility, nutrition, and elimination needs.
- Complete accurate, timely, and professional medical documentation.
- Prepare patients for procedures, transfers, and discharge.
- Provide thorough rounds during shift changes.
- Communicate with doctors and nursing team members throughout the shift.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked inpatient area.
- Update owners with nursing updates during a patient’s stay and assist with visitation.
Qualifications
- Previous veterinary experience is required.
- Emergency, critical care, or hospitalized patient experience is a plus.
- Veterinary technician licensure is preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely handle dogs and cats with varying medical and behavioral needs.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and prioritize responsibilities during emergencies.
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
