Housecall Team – Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant
The Welcome Waggin’ In-Home & Veterinary Care Center | Plainfield, Illinois
Plainfield, Illinois
$21–29/hour + Benefits + Four-Day Work Week
Not all veterinary jobs feel the same.
Some clinics move patients from room to room.
We move veterinary medicine back home.
At The Welcome Waggin’, we’ve built one of Illinois’ premier housecall veterinary practices because we believe pets deserve to be cared for where they’re most comfortable—and clients deserve an experience that feels personal, compassionate, and unforgettable.
As our practice continues to grow, we’re looking for another exceptional Veterinary Technician or highly experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our mobile medical team.
If you’re looking for a career where you’ll build real relationships, practice excellent medicine, and finish each day knowing you truly made a difference, we’d love to meet you.
What Makes This Role Different?
Every day, you’ll partner one-on-one with a veterinarian as a true medical team.
Together you’ll care for approximately 5–7 families each day, providing wellness care, diagnostics, sick appointments, quality-of-life consultations, hospice care, and peaceful in-home euthanasia.
You’ll never feel like “just the technician.”
You’ll be an essential medical professional, trusted by your doctor, appreciated by clients, and empowered to use your skills every day.
While housecalls are the heart of our practice, you may also spend time in our beautiful Veterinary Care Center assisting with in-clinic appts, diagnostics, technician appointments, and advanced patient care.
It truly offers the best of both worlds.
What Your Days Look Like
Every day is different—but that’s exactly why our team loves it.
You’ll:
- Partner with one veterinarian throughout the day on housecalls
- Assist with wellness and sick-patient exams
- Collect blood, urine and diagnostic samples
- Place catheters and perform venipuncture
- Take x-rays using our mobile x-ray unit
- Support hospice and end-of-life appointments with compassion
- Perform technician appointments in the Care Center
- Educate clients and become someone they genuinely trust
- Help maintain our mobile vehicles, equipment, and medical supplies
Expect roughly 1.5-2.5 hours of driving each day between appointments while our Client Service Team coordinates scheduling, routing, and client communication so you can focus on medicine.
Who Thrives Here?
This position is perfect for someone who…
- Loves building relationships with clients—not rushing through appointments.
- Wants to practice high-quality medicine.
- Enjoys variety instead of doing the exact same thing every day.
- Communicates confidently and compassionately.
- Loves working independently while still being part of a close-knit team.
- Finds purpose in helping families during some of their happiest—and hardest—moments.
- Takes pride in being organized, prepared, and dependable.
- Wants to help build something special instead of simply punching a clock.
