Role Description The Head of Geography is a full-time, on-site role based in Molo, responsible for leading the Geography department and delivering high-quality teaching in line with the British curriculum. The role involves planning and teaching engaging Geography lessons, overseeing curriculum development, and ensuring effective assessment and reporting of student progress. The Head of Geography will mentor and support department staff, coordinate schemes of work and resources, and contribute to whole-school academic standards and improvement. The role includes organizing fieldwork and experiential learning opportunities, promoting Geography within the school, and actively participating in staff meetings, professional development, and school events. The postholder is also expected to contribute to the wider life of the school through co-curricular activities and to model and uphold the Christian ethos and values of St Andrew’s School, Turi.
Qualifications
- Strong subject knowledge in Geography and proven experience teaching Geography within a British curriculum context (e.g., IGCSE and A-Level or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum planning, assessment design, and use of data to support student progress and departmental improvement.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, including the ability to mentor colleagues, coordinate departmental activities, and contribute to strategic planning.
- Effective classroom management and pedagogical skills, with the ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learning needs.
- Experience organizing and supervising field trips, practical work, and experiential learning activities in Geography.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Commitment to holistic education, including support for co-curricular programs and the wider development of students beyond the classroom.
- Alignment with and willingness to actively support the Christian ethos, values, and pastoral life of the school.
- Relevant university degree in Geography or a closely related field; a recognized teaching qualification
