Introduction
A prestigious luxury Safari lodge in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Guide to lead its guiding department and deliver exceptional wildlife experiences to international guests. This exciting opportunity is ideal for a professional Guide who is passionate about Conservation, guest satisfaction, team leadership, and creating unforgettable safari experiences.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of safari operations, including conducting game drives and guided bush walks, mentoring and developing guides, wildlife monitoring, conservation initiatives, and ensuring the highest standards of guest service. As the Head Guide, you will play a key role in maintaining the lodge’s reputation for excellence while ensuring that every guest enjoys a world-class safari experience.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a luxury lodge environment where wildlife, hospitality, and conservation combine to create memorable experiences for guests from around the world. If you are an experienced Guide looking to take the next step in your safari career while leading a professional team, this position is for you.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Guide within a luxury Safari lodge environment
- Previous Head Guide or supervisory experience preferred
- FGASA Level 2 qualification with Full Trails qualification essential
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Valid Driver’s Licence and PrDP
- DEAT/NDT registration where applicable
- Valid Rifle Competency advantageous
- Strong knowledge of wildlife, ecology, birding, and Conservation
- Proven ability to mentor, train, and develop guiding teams
- Experience hosting international luxury guests
- Excellent communication and guest relations skills
- Strong leadership and organisational abilities
- Experience managing safari vehicles, equipment, and operational standards
- Ability to complete reports, training records, and wildlife monitoring documentation
- Passion for responsible tourism and environmental stewardship
