Position: Grounds Maintenance Worker 2

Permanent full‑time state position located at Camp Rilea in Warrenton, Oregon. The role is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect grounds to determine needs and design planting or landscaping projects.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and safe appearance of the grounds around state owned and leased facilities.
  • Independently design and plan landscape projects and assign duties requiring a Public Pesticide Applicator license in coordination with supervision.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, blowing sand, and unsanitary conditions several times monthly.
  • Work in inclement weather and on uneven terrain and hillsides.
  • Ability to lift 70 lbs and operate mowers, weed eaters, and other equipment for sustained periods.
  • Must be able to work with restricted‑use pesticides and operate motor vehicles.

Qualifications

  • Associated degree in landscape technology, horticulture, turf management, or a closely related field.
  • Eighteen (18) months of landscape experience and the ability to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of hire.
  • OR three (3) years of landscape experience and the ability to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Favorable criminal background history and Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) suitability determination (T1).
  • Commitment to maintain a drug/alcohol‑free workplace as required by OMD policy.
