Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Assistant
Job Summary: Assists other grounds maintenance staff in performing grounds maintenance activities. Installs, repairs, and replaces playground or other anchored grounds items. Operates light ground maintenance equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, machinery, and equipment. Performs routine fence repairs. Assists other shops in their operation: may accept and perform routine carpentry, structural, cleaning, and other work as directed.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs routine and nonroutine grounds maintenance work, including maintaining lawns and gardens, grass cutting, edging, shrubbery, topiaries, ornamental horticulture, yard grading, preparing and mulching planting beds, planting trees, shrubs, bushes, grass, and other plants, removing and disposing of plant material, managing water drainage, dispersing sand in playground areas, and maintaining landscaping projects.
Installs, repairs, and replaces playground or other anchored grounds items based on work orders; evaluates work sites to determine appropriate actions.
Operates light ground maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, hydro-seeders, rotary tillers, sod-cutters, chain saws, and wood chippers.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment.
Performs fence repairs as needed.
Assists other shops with their operations, including routine carpentry, structural, cleaning, and other tasks as directed.
May assist higher-skilled grounds maintenance staff in their activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
Candidate
Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent for basic reading and math skills.
Three to five years of experience in grounds maintenance.
Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience acceptable.
Valid VA or NC driver’s license required.
Frequent sitting, talking, seeing, and hearing; occasional standing and walking; ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
