Summary of
Duties
Reports to the Horticultural Supervisor. Performs horticultural practices to maintain grounds and gardens.
General
Duties
Analyze, create, and implement horticultural materials such as annuals, perennials, shrubs, and sod.
Maintain beds and shrubs through weeding, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and watering.
Implement horticultural displays, e.g., Chrysanthemum show.
Assess and address problems in plants and soil; carry out corrective actions.
Operate tools and equipment like edgers, leaf blowers, trimmers, rototillers, and tractors.
Respond to public inquiries.
Load and unload materials and equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on tools and machinery.
Maintain inventory of materials used.
Recommend materials and complete projects involving flagstone, interlocking stone, timber, etc.
Perform minor maintenance on tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
Coordinate with contractors and other departments.
Adhere to all health and safety legislation and city policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Horticultural training and experience in soft landscaping, installation, and maintenance. A 2-year diploma in Horticulture or related field preferred.
Technical knowledge of plant materials and ability to perform complex tasks requiring specialized skills.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, W.H.M.I.S., and Traffic Control regulations.
Valid Class G driver’s license required; proof needed after hire.
