The Ministry of Agriculture requires a motivated, detail-orientated and self-confident individual to fill the Game Farm Investigator position in the the northwest part of the province.

As part of the Emergency Response and Inspection team in the Livestock Branch, you will be responsible for the delivery of the Game Farm, Fur Farm and Wild Boar Programs which includes investigative work and enforcement of the regulations pertaining to game, fur and wild boar farms; completing game and fur farm inventories; and providing inspections such as for fencing requirements and purging wild big game animals from newly fenced lands.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the game farm, fur farm and wild boar industries and applicable legislation; animal welfare standards and investigative aids. The abilities required for success in this position include excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills that enable compliance in difficult situations; handling of game farm animals efficiently and humanely; excellent written and oral communication skills that provide clear and concise information;

use of computer applications; appropriate application of the various Acts and regulations, policies and procedures related to the game, fur and wild boar industries; independent planning and prioritization of work to meet program mandates; driving of all-terrain vehicles (ATV); recognition of risks to yourself and others with ability to take steps to minimize or remove the risks; and working cooperatively with others in a team environment to enable positive working relationships.

As a field employee, you may be required to work non-traditional, flexible hours and be on the road at a minimum 50% of the time. The position will require overnight travel throughout the province at all times of the year. A valid driver’s licence is required for the position. The successful candidate is subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment and required to complete safe ATV driving and First Aid certification courses if not previously done.

Typically the competencies for this position are obtained through extensive regulatory experience as an inspector/investigator in the game farm, fur farm and wild boar industries or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
