Shady Grove Animal Clinic is a privately owned small animal general practice located in Glen Allen, VA – near the intersection of interstate 295 and 64 and just minutes from the Short Pump area! At Shady Grove Animal Clinic we strive every day to provide top-notch, compassionate, and personalized care to our clients & patients and to provide an excellent work environment and work/life balance for all of our team members. We currently have 4 full-time veterinarians, 2 part-time veterinarians, as well as an experienced skilled support staff of licensed technicians, veterinary assistants and receptionists. We are open Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:30pm and closed on weekends and all major holidays. Our doors have been open since 2001 and we have a large and growing client base.
We are actively looking for a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team! The ideal candidate cares just as much about our furry patients and their quality of life as we do! All applicants must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Virginia, or able to become licensed in the state of Virginia and a veterinary technology degree from an AVMA accredited vet tech program. We welcome all qualified applicants – from newly licensed techs to well-seasoned technicians! Mentorship is readily available and our current veterinarian team has over 117 years of combined experience! Pay is based on experience, starting at $27-30/hour, starting rate negotiable for highly skilled and experienced technicians.
This full-time position is flexible and could be a 4 day work week (10hr shift) or a 5 day work week (8hr shift) depending on the applicants needs, with no weekend, on-call, or holiday duty. This position also includes a generous benefit package, including the following benefits:
$1,000 Sign On Bonus (paid out after 90 days successful employment)
LVT license renewal paid for by the clinic, as well as $750/yr for CE & 1 paid CE day

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent degree
A.A.S. or higher in Veterinary Technology
Current Active Veterinary Technician License in the state of Virginia
Experience working in the veterinary field
Strong knowledge & understanding of pharmacology
Strong anesthesia skills – induction, intubation, monitoring, recovery
Venipuncture & IVC placement skills
Strong medical math skills
Confidence in microscopy and running lab work
Patient Triage & CPR skills
Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to, heart & respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, capnography
Willingness to mentor and help train co-workers as well as willingness to learn advanced skills & new technology
Ability to thrive in a team work environment
Handle and restrain animals safely during procedures, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
Responsibilities:
Perform all duties allowed for LVTs by the Virginia Practice Act
Assist DVMs with appointments and drop offs, perform TPRs, obtain complete medical histories, enter charges
Run anesthesia & surgeries from start to finish – from premedicating to induction, monitoring of the surgery, and recovery
Perform dental cleaning procedures
Conduct laboratory tests and assist in diagnostic imaging, including X-rays and digital dental radiography.
Venipuncture & IVC placement
Maintain accurate medical records
Mentor & train co-workers
