POSITION:Forestry Technician II

SALARY:$/ hour DOE

REPORTS TO:Forest Development Officer

LOCATION:Nespelem District, Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions:This is a non-exempt position. The incumbent will assist professional Foresters, Forest Technicians, or Forestry Aids in a variety of technical tasks requiring basic knowledge of forest biology and thepractical applicationof standard forestry methods. Primary duties include Forest Development activities/contracts, PCT, Stocking surveys, Piling, and Cone Collection. Knowledge of purchasing policies for payments, change orders, and signature processes is also required.

Additionally, the incumbent will assist with managing the tribal Cold Storage building seasonally and perform timber sale duties such as layout, marking, locating property lines/corners, and cruising.

Qualifications:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, with some coursework in mathematics and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.). A strong math and science background is highly recommended. AND

Three (3) seasons of experience at the Forestry Technician I level, including training completed for an approved Training Plan. AND

Certification of Log Scaling at the Advanced level, done yearly through BIA Check Scaler & carded/documented. Documentation for future Log Scaling rollouts/workshops will be required. OR

A Forestry Technician Degree or a two-year NaturalResource Managementdegree from an accredited institution, AND one year’s satisfactory experience at the Forestry Technician I grade level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with district forest environments/watersheds and transportation systems.

Working knowledge of timber sale contracts, maps, and operational plans.

Knowledge of various Forest Development contracts and requirements.

Understanding of the CCT’s 208 Forest Practices/Water Quality Act and its requirements.

Knowledge of applicable Tribal and federal regulations concerning forest management activities.

Ability to Log Scale at all mills and manage log scale data for payment.

Understanding of logging systems, road layout, and construction related to timber sales.

Knowledge oftools and equipmentspecific to forestry operations.

Ability to operate various types of four-wheel drives and UTVs.

Knowledge of Silviculture practices and prescribed fire as a tool for forest management objectives.

Ability to conduct various forest surveys, including timber cruising and vegetation assessments.

Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in outdoor environments under various weather conditions.

Ability to make accurate mathematical computations and maintain routine written records.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to interact professionally with contractors and stakeholders regarding contract matters.

Flexibilityto work hours and overtime as needed.

Skill in using various manual and power tools used in forestry operations.

Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
