Position: FOREMAN – CHICKEN BREEDER
Job Summary
:
The Foreman – Chicken Breeder will be responsible for managing a team of workers and overseeing the breeding operations in a poultry farm. This includes supervising breeding programs, ensuring the health and well-being of the birds, maintaining production quality, and meeting performance targets. The role requires expertise in poultry farming, team management, and adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
:
Supervising Breeding Operations
:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of chicken breeding, ensuring high-quality stock is bred and maintained.
Monitor and adjust breeding practices to improve performance (egg production, hatch rates, etc.).
Manage the breeding schedules, ensuring that optimal genetic pairings are made to enhance traits such as egg production, growth rates, and disease resistance.
TeamLeadershipand Training
:
Supervise and direct a team of farm workers in breeding, care, and daily maintenance tasks.
Provide training to employees on breeding procedures, animal care,safety protocols, and equipment usage.
Foster a productive andsafe working environment.
Monitoring Chicken Health
:
Ensure proper health management protocols are followed, including vaccinations, parasite control, and diseaseprevention.
Observe chicken behavior and conditions, reporting any signs of illness, stress, or abnormal behavior.
Work with veterinarians and other specialists to develop and implement health programs.
Farm Management and Record-Keeping
:
Maintain accurate records of breeding cycles, production rates, hatch success, health assessments, and other critical data.
Ensure all records comply with regulatory standards and company policies.
Use data to analyze trends, identify areas for improvement, and optimize breeding outcomes.
Facility and Equipment Maintenance
:
Oversee the maintenance of breeding facilities, ensuring that chicken housing, equipment, and infrastructure are in good working condition.
Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation of breeding areas to minimize health risks.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure any issues are addressed promptly.
Quality Control and Production Monitoring
:
Monitor egg production, hatch rates, and other production metrics to ensure targets are met.
Ensure that production levels meet company goals for breeding stock or hatchlings.
Manage the movement of chickens from breeding areas to other parts of the farm as needed.
Compliance and Safety
:
Ensure all breeding practices and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to animal welfare, biosecurity, and environmental standards.
Implement and enforce safety standards to prevent accidents and injuries on the farm.
Qualifications
:
Education
:
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondaryeducationin animal science, agriculture, or a related field preferred.
Experience
:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in poultry farming or breeding.
Previous experience in aleadershipor supervisory role is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of poultry breeding, health, nutrition, and genetics.
