Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) – Ameri Corps Non-native Plant Terminators (A.N.T.) – Alachua, FL

Position Overview and Responsibilities

The FLCC Ameri Corps program places volunteers in approximately 25 state parks to help restore habitats by managing invasive exotic plants. Volunteers work in pairs, report daily to onsite park management, and submit service data to FLCC staff based in Gainesville, FL. This role requires 1,700 service hours between September 2026 and July 31, 2027, roughly 35–40 hours per week.

  • Operate and maintain tools such as chainsaws, trail tools, herbicide equipment, hand tools, and vehicles (ATV, UTV).
  • Safely apply herbicides following regulations.
  • Participate in prescribed fire activities.
  • Create, maintain, and improve public trails.
  • Learn and apply federal and state policies and guidelines.
  • Enter data and retrieve reports for progress tracking.
  • Organize and participate in strike teams and service projects.
  • Build relationships with natural resource professionals.
  • Conduct community outreach: design flyers and graphics, lead volunteer projects, set up tables at events, and educate park visitors.
  • Assist in disaster response and recovery efforts.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource‑management techniques.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attend in‑person orientation in October 2026 (dates TBD).
  • Complete 1,700 hours of service between September 1, 2026, and July 31, 2027.
  • Successfully complete background and fingerprint check.
  • Accurately prepare reports.
  • Interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders and the public.
  • Implement non‑native plant removal methods, including herbicide application.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform physical labor, lift 40 pounds, and assist in transporting items or supplies up to 100 pounds.
  • Wear uniform appropriately.

Other Job‑Related Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a background check.

Minimum Qualifications

The position is a Position of Special Trust; successful completion of background screening is required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Monthly Living Stipend: $2,200.00
  • $7,395 Education Award after completion of service
  • No‑cost insurance premiums (deductibles still required)
