Description

The Farm Assistant’s role is to supervise and ensure the daily operation of the farm runs smoothly. This includes but is not limited to working in crop production which can cover vegetables, greens, herbs, flowers, seedlings; overseeing the operation of the farm stand; giving brief weekly reports of tasks completed and pounds harvested to the farm manager; assisting in overall farm activities;

abiding by NYC COVID-19 guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties

Development & Planning

Work closely with the Farm Manager to plan a feasible seasonal Green Teen curriculum.

Prepare to teach/lead several workshops during Green Teen training week.

Give farm manager pointers and suggestions for maximum yield.

Work with Farm Manager and the Director of Programs to organize and set up TCAH’s annual Children’s Harvest Festival (Fall Event).

Prepare to attend any farm-related events hosted by TCAH or elsewhere.

Management

Assist Lead Farmer to supervise all tasks given to Green Teen interns; ensure tasks are done effectively and in a timely manner.

Supervise volunteers, school groups, corporate groups, tours and deliveries/pickups in the space.

Oversee farm stand performance.

Manual Labor

Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield, crop etc.

Making sure that produce is ready for pickup deadlines, such as CSAs, mobile farm stands, pantry, café, restaurants etc.

Hands-on farming activity.

Arranging the maintenance and repairs of tools and equipment, fences, gates, greenhouse etc.

Tend to chickens.

Monitor operation of compost bins and chicken manure.

Farm Stand

Assist Farm Manager with produce production for clients.

Sell, produce and maintain financial records.

Ensure the cash box is kept.
