Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal care and veterinary practices, ensuring the health and well-being of our patients. This role involves working closely with veterinarians and pet owners to provide high-quality medical care for animals.
Duties
Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures.
Patient assessment, triage, administering medications, performing diagnostic tests, and providing nursing care while maintaining a clean and organized environment.
Perform routine laboratory tests and analyze results.
Take and monitor vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and respiration, and document any changes or abnormalities.
Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Safely restrain animals for examinations, treatments, and procedures, ensuring the well-being of both the animal and the staff.
Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients, including feeding, administering medications, and wound care.
Monitor animal health and husbandry through observation of behavior and physical condition.
Assist with anesthesia induction and monitoring, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during procedures.
Provide education to pet owners on proper post-operative care or post hospitalization.
Accurately calculate and administer medications, ensuring proper dosage and route of administration.
They maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medications administered, procedures performed, and observations.
Communicate with clients, providing updates on their pet’s condition and treatment plan.
Prepare animals for surgery, including anesthesia administration and catheterization.
ensure the hospital is clean and organized, including cleaning cages, treatment areas, and equipment.
Ensure owners and referring rdvms receive patient medical records and diagnostic results.
Experience
Candidates should have a background in veterinary technology. Credentialed is a plus.
Minimum of 2 years working in an emergency animal hospital.
Comfortable with anesthesia and knowledge of safe anesthesia patient parameters.
Proficiency in laboratory procedures related to animal care.
Knowledge of canine and feline diseases.
