Job Overview
The Wildlife Biologist will provide methodological, scientific, and technical support for the implementation of the Hunting, Fishing, and Trapping Regime as per section 24 of the JBNQA. The role involves addressing wildlife matters in the James Bay Territory, with a focus on conserving wildlife populations and respecting Cree rights. The primary responsibility includes managing Big Game species such as moose and caribou, along with supporting projects related to other wildlife.

Core Responsibilities
Plan and implement wildlife projects related to Big Game management and conservation.
Provide advice and support to Cree Nation Government staff involved in wildlife issues.
Advise the Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Coordinating Committee (HFTCC) on wildlife matters.
Assist local Cree governments and agencies, including the Cree Trappers Association (CTA), in wildlife projects.
Identify research needs for wildlife regime implementation and wildlife issues.
Review and recommend on wildlife status reports, management plans, environmental assessments, and regulations.
Conduct scientific reviews and assess wildlife populations using the best available information.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department Director.
Communication
and Interaction
Participate in committees addressing wildlife topics.
Provide reports and presentations to the council, CTA, and other Cree entities.
Administrative
Duties
Manage wildlife projects ensuring their successful completion.
Ensure compliance with project agreements.
Report to funding entities as required.
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain current knowledge and skills.
Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Languages: Fluency in English;
French and Cree are assets.

The Cree Nation Government may waive some requirements if a suitable candidate agrees to follow a training plan.
