Description:

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conservation of the state’s natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth’s marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities, and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. Mass Wildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals.

Mass Wildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy.

Job Opening:
The Department of Fish and Game seeks applicants for the position of Central District Wildlife Technician (Wildlife Technician II) assigned to the Central District Office, West Boylston, MA, to perform the following duties:

The Central District Wildlife Technician (Wildlife Technician II) assists biologists and scientists by performing a variety of tasks associated with fisheries and wildlife management, data collection, habitat management, wildlife-related public recreation, public access to state-owned conservation lands,equipment operationand maintenance,education, licensing, law enforcement, and public relations. This work contributes to the protection and management of the state’sdiversityof plants and animals, their habitats, and the public’s ability to access and enjoy wildlife resources.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists District Manager, Biologists, and Technician III in coordination and performance of district activities.

Assists in maintaining and enhancing habitats (e.g., field and shrubland maintenance, constructing and repairing nesting structures), maintenance of and access to Wildlife Management Areas including parking area and gate maintenance, trash pickup, blocking illegal motorized vehicle access, conducting boundary marking, etc. using a variety of equipment, including hand and power tools, brush cutters, backhoes, and bulldozers, to preserve and protect the state’s natural resources while promoting a well-rounded anddiverse communityof plants and animals.
