Job Description

Meaningful support in laboratory analysis of wide range of veterinary samples for haematology, clinical chemistry, histopathology, endocrinology, microscopy, serology, and provide professional consultation as required.

Perform routine veterinary laboratory testing under the directions of Manager Diagnostic Laboratory (MDL) other than the above, such as microbiology and PCR, if required.

Receive, evaluate and prepare biological samples, and perform laboratory testing to assist veterinarians in their clinical decision making for horses registered with EVMC, and for samples from external clients.

Perform and monitor laboratory work ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025; 2017 and OIE standards of veterinary diagnostic laboratories.

Able to set up, run, calibrate the laboratory analysers, set up the assay, produce and report acceptable lab results according to the ISO standards.

Consult and assist in the ISO accreditation document preparation, implementation of policies and procedures, record keeping in the EVMC Diagnostic laboratory (EVMC-DL) accreditation process.

Maintain the laboratory analysers in optimum working conditions with daily, weekly and monthly calibration cycles.

Able to enlist, forecast and maintain the laboratory supplies stock and maintain inventories. Keep track of stock levels and replenish when needed.

Able to assist and contribute to research, analysing the laboratory result data using advanced statistical techniques.

Able to communicate effectively in English language in writing and orally with all staff. Effective communication in Arabic language an asset.

Excellent computing skills using Microsoft Office and its products, and flexibility in performing duties other than mentioned above, and extended hours or weekends if required.

Able to use Lab Information Management System (LIMS), and Hospital and Veterinary Management System (HVMS). Able to communicate with LIMS developers, HVMS operators for possible trouble shooting.

Report any accident or equipment failure or misconduct to the MDL.

Provide training for interested veterinarians, new employees, scientists, and students in proper use of EVMC-DL analysers and facilities.

Aware of EVMC-DL biosecurity and biosafety signs and procedures while dealing with biological samples including body fluids, tissues, and their containers (tubes, bottles, swabs, slides), hazardous chemicals, fire safety, and in case if happened to lift heavy objects.

Aware of the safe use of fire extinguishers in controlling small fire, proper use of spill kits, eye wash units and body washers, and cylinders for anaerobic gas mixture.

Aware of the proper use of centrifuges, water baths, autoclaves and instrument washing machines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Lab Medical Technology.

2-5 years’ experience working in medical diagnostic laboratory.

. BSc Biological Science or other related field with 1-3 years of laboratory experience.

. MSc Biotechnology 1-3 years’ experience working in medical diagnostic laboratory.
