The organization’s outreach in Swaziland began in 2008 with the CHIPS (Children’s HIV Intervention Programme in Swaziland), supporting HIV-affected children and their caregivers in remote communities. To strengthen and expand this work, Kudvumisa Foundation USA and Swaziland were established to formalize the CHIPS program and build infrastructure for local clinics in underserved areas. By employing and training local Swazis, the foundation promotes economic empowerment while developing compassionate staff who understand and are closely connected to the communities they serve.
Role Description The Dental Therapist is a full-time, on-site role based in Maphiveni, providing accessible oral health care to community members, including children and adults. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing dental assessments, delivering preventive and basic restorative dental treatments, and promoting good oral hygiene practices. The role involves educating patients and caregivers on health promotion, counseling on disease prevention, and coordinating care with other health professionals within Kudvumisa’s programs. The Dental Therapist will maintain accurate patient records, follow infection prevention and control protocols, and contribute to outreach activities and community-based oral health initiatives.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess skills and experience in Dental Care and Dentistry, including preventive and basic restorative procedures.
- Candidates should possess skills in Hygiene and Health Promotion, with the ability to educate patients and communities on oral health and disease prevention.
- Candidates should possess strong Patient Care skills, demonstrating empathy, cultural sensitivity, and clear communication.
- Recognized qualification or diploma in Dental Therapy, Dentistry, or a related oral health field, and eligibility to practice according to local regulations.
- Experience working in low-resource or community-based healthcare settings is highly beneficial.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing community needs.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining electronic or paper-based clinical records and reporting.
- Proficiency in the local language and familiarity with the Maphiveni context is an advantage.
