Job Description
In collaboration with the existing Wildlife Property Technician, this position shares responsibility for managing 19,000 acres of State Wildlife Areas within Area
9. This includes co-overseeing the operations and maintenance of the Hot Sulphur Springs Service Center, three employee residences, three shops, one bunkhouse, one shooting range, and various outbuildings. Additionally, this position’s primary role is overseeing approximately 12,000 acres of the Radium State Wildlife Area, including residing at the Radium house and maintaining it.
Habitat Management
Enhances and improves wildlife habitat on SWAs utilizing various tools such as mechanical tree mastication, hand clearing of trees, prescribed burns, noxious weed treatment, tillage and spring/water development. Inspect signage and fences and ensure that minimum standards for properties are being met.
Develop multi-year plans for habitat projects in coordination with AWM, AAWM, DWMs and Biologists. Develop relationships with key stakeholders and neighboring landowners. Procure funding for habitat projects through the use of grants, both internal and external. Utilize grant funds for habitat enhancement projects on SWA’s. Participate in the State bid process to engage vendors for habitat projects. Water Management
Fully utilizes all water rights owned by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Reports and records all use of water rights. Improves and maintains all infrastructure associated with water rights.
Equipment and Facilities Management Procurement, repair and maintenance of all NWRSC structures, facilities and equipment, including the Hunter Education building, indoor shooting range, 3 separate office buildings, storage yards/structures/buildings, utility services (i.e. water, sewer, cameras, electricity, EV stations, etc.). Maintenance of landscaping, lawns, shelters and snow removal at the NWRSC. Administrative Functions Monitor expenses, track budget, make purchasing decisions, prepare reports, develop work plans, apply for and administer grant applications, coordinate projects with AWM, DWMs, Bios, renew leases, coordinate with CSR’s and function as front desk help during busy periods.
Recruit, hire and support temporary workers and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications , Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management. construction management or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required. OR A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Outdoor Recreation, Zoology/Animal Sciences, Engineering, P.E
/ Professional Engineer, Water resources planning or management, Program Management/Project Management, Agricultural Sciences and/or relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management. construction management equal to four (4) years.
Substitutions Appropriate education in construction or project management, natural resources, environmental science, recreation management, business or a related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Technician IV Preferred Qualifications Current or former State experience relevant to the position. Current or former CPW work or volunteer experience. Experience with agricultural practices and associated machinery/tools. Experience with irrigation and reporting water use. Knowledge of noxious weeds and spraying. A commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Haying/Grazing Experience. Required Competencies Property Management Skills. Strong level of written and oral communication skills.
Ability to use and operate computers/e-mail/spreadsheets/associated technology. Ability to run and maintain machinery and equipment. Ability to manage multiple projects. Equipment/Property Maintenance Background.
