We are working with a Management Services Organization (MSO) that operates as an aggregator, acquiring and supporting legal service businesses and then charges a fee for providing those back-office services. The current team consists of approximately four people and is in a high acquisition and high-growth phase. Will serve as the lead Accounting position under the CFO for the Holding Corporation. Reports directly to the company leadership (HoldCo)
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience within an acquisition-driven or aggregator business model
- Ideally Private Equity Roll-Up/Aggregator experience and MSO experience
- MSO Experience can be seen in Healthcare Physician, Dental Support Organizations (DSOs), Veterinary MSOs, Physical Therapy, Personal Injury law Firms, Plaintiff Law Firm, CPA firm platforms, Tax Advisory Platforms, Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) Platforms, Insurance Agency Roll-Ups
- Controllers here often manage: Multi-entity consolidations, Acquisitions, PE-backed reporting
- 7-12+ years of accounting experience
- CPA/Public Accounting foundation strong Plus. Wanting to pay for profile here.This is a KEY HIRE
- Previous Controller experience preferred (maybe a scrappy Assistant Controller stepping up with the perfect right experience)
- Strong background with domestic U.S. businesses
- Experience managing cash-to-accrual accounting conversions
- Comfortable with evaluating technologies for accounting process efficiency and implementing them
- Comfortable with evaluating, creating, and improving accounting processes that are scalable and efficient
- QuickBooks expertise (QuickBooks Desktop now, RAMP). Plan to integrate new software in the future. Someone with experience with implementing new software for an aggregator is ideal with mapping etc. could be (Sage Intacct, Netsuite, etc). The actual software doesn’t matter as much as the mapping and multi-entity aggregator detail/scrapiness needed to do this
- This is a builder and mapper and efficiency process thinker, not a follower of process and checklists
Preferred Industry Experience
- MSOs/DSOs
- PE-backed aggregators
- Personal injury law firms or legal exposure is a small plus, but they don’t want someone from a law firm level, but at a Holdco level. The key is the aggregator MSO experience over the legal knowledge
- Private Equity-backed companies
- Acquisition/integration environments
Technical Qualifications
- Advanced QuickBooks Desktop proficiency
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- CPA is a plus
- Will complete a technical accounting assessment during the interview process
- Experience with multiple entity mapping and consolidations
- Implemented new ERP in an aggressive roll-up
- Scrappy at implementing new tools and picking highly efficient technologies and developing highly efficient accounting processes
- Currently using RAMP
