Job Description
The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional program boasts a unique curricular structure, which provides nearly two years of hands-on training in the college’s general and specialty clinics.
Additionally, the College is a leader in the training of Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students in the areas of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Pathobiology. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover, and Serve.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people through instruction, innovative research, service, and leadership. The department is home to the college’s Veterinary Health Center where our faculty provide clinical care, teach, and develop innovative treatments and therapies.
We are seeking a Clinical Instructor or NTT Faculty to join our Small Animal Community Practice section in a 0.8 FTE position. Community Practice provides comprehensive primary and preventative veterinary medical care for companion animals while actively supporting the teaching, training, and mentorship of veterinary students within a Veterinary Health Center. This position integrates clinical excellence, client service, and academic instruction within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
The Community Practice service provides primary veterinary care for small animal owners in Columbia, Missouri, and surrounding communities. Although we offer a complete range of veterinary services, our main focus is preventing disease and pain and maximizing quality of life for our patients.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality small animal primary and preventative veterinary care, including examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, routine procedures, and accurate medical record documentation.
- Participate in clinical teaching by supervising and mentoring veterinary students, modeling professional conduct, and providing case-based instruction and feedback.
- Communicate effectively with clients and collaborate with Veterinary Health Center faculty and staff within specialty services to ensure coordinated patient care and a positive client experience.
- Contribute to the professional and graduate curriculum by participating in classroom and laboratory instruction. Opportunities for online instruction are possible.
- Represent the University, College, and VHC through outreach activities for animal-owning public, referring veterinarians, or other relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in scholarly activities such as research; professional development; publication of book chapters, case reports, or client-oriented educational publications; or continuing education opportunities for the veterinary medical community or general public.
- Contribute to and participate in college, departmental and hospital governance and service through committee work and other activities.
This is 0.8 FTE position, with the anticipation that they will work 4 days per week. The position is a benefit eligible, 12-month/year appointment. Distribution of effort between teaching, research, and service will depend on the career goals of the final candidate and the needs of the department. As an NTT faculty member, incumbents will not be expected to build or maintain a research portfolio but will be expected to participate in an array of scholarly activities to contribute to the overall advancement of the field of veterinary medicine and public health.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (such as VMD, BVSc)
