Our Canine Enrichment (K9E) Counselors are highly skilled and energetic professionals who excel at observing and assessing behavioral patterns in dogs. They effectively exercise dogs as needed and employ proven dog-training techniques to address and correct problematic behaviors. Success in this role requires a strong comfort level with dogs of all sizes and breeds. A robust work ethic, paired with the physical capability to meet the demands of the position, is essential, along with a genuine passion for providing extra care and training to dogs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide specialized care to dogs who require special handling due to a variety of factors i.e., human aggression, health/physical limitations, or other behavioral or physical challenges.

Responsible for curating and implementing special playgroups for dogs who are socially challenged.

Foster open communication with pet owners throughout the program.

Develop and implement customized training programs based on dogs’ training needs and behavioral patterns.

Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the enrichment play areas and equipment after use (toys, food puzzles, agility equipment, etc).

Assist in providing food and medication to dogs.

Monitor dogs during assigned play and socialization times to prevent accidents or injuries.

Promptly report injuries, accidents, or medical issues to management.

Maintain accurate records of dogs’ training and medical needs, behavioral issues, personalized training programs, and progress.

May have the opportunity to be trained and to assist in the implementation of Pet Camp’s Caper Cadet dog training program.

Requirements

Must be comfortable with dogs of all breeds and sizes with varying temperaments.

Must have sound judgment in decision-making when handling dogs.

Ability to walk on varying terrain, including sealed concrete, rubber flooring, artificial turf, natural ground cover (i.e., dirt), and up/down stairs.

Able to effectively communicate with pet parents about their dog’s progress.

Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Must be able to work outside in the elements, taking safety precautions.

Must be able to stand for 6-8 hours a day.

Must have problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.

Valid California driver’s license and ability to drive a large van is a plus.
