Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Canine Caretaker to provide exceptional care for animals in a nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and possess the skills necessary to ensure the health and happiness of our shelter dogs. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including animal care, customer service, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the dogs in our care. All Canine caretakers are expected to exhibit a positive and professional attitude at all times.
Participate in behavioral evaluations on incoming dogs to identify potential issues and develop appropriate care plans. Implementing positive reinforcement training techniques to address behavioral concerns. Help in creating enrichment activities to stimulate dogs both mentally & physically. Leading socialization sessions with dogs to prepare them for adoption. Adoption support by presenting dogs to potential adopters, providing detailed info on their temperament and needs. Work with other staff members including animal vet techs, veterinarian and management.
Duties
Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, walking & exercising the dogs.
Sanitize & disinfect all dog kennels and play areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to management or medical staff.
Assist with pet grooming tasks as needed.
Engage with potential adopters during visits to the shelter, conduct adoption meet and greets.
Handle dogs safely during walks and playtime, ensuring their well-being at all times.
Assist with day-to-day chores at the shelter. This will include unpacking and stocking of shelter supplies, laundry, dishes, taking out the garbage, performing general cleaning of all shelter areas and outside play areas & meet and greet rooms as needed. Perform heavy lifting as required when moving animals or equipment.
Support veterinary staff with basic animal handling tasks when necessary.
Must have a flexible schedule to work during the week, weekends and holidays
Skills
Strong experience in animal care, including knowledge of dog handling techniques.
Excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with pet owners.
Proficiency in dog handling and experience working in a kennel environment.
Ability to perform heavy lifting and manage physically demanding tasks.
Strong animal handling skills to ensure safety for both pets and staff.
Compassionate attitude towards animals, demonstrating patience and understanding.
