Canine Behavior Specialist
Job Summary:
Canine Behavior Specialists (Dog Handlers) are responsible for the direct supervision and care of dogs in both group and individual settings. They ensure the safety, enrichment, and well-being of all dogs through careful observation, behavior management, and engagement in play and rest activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise dog playgroups, ensuring safe and appropriate interactions
Safely introduce new dogs into group play settings
Monitor dog behavior and body language; intervene when necessary
Perform basic care duties including feeding, watering, administering medications, and providing potty breaks
Complete bathing, nail trimming (if trained), and basic grooming tasks as needed
Document and report any behavioral or health concerns to the Manager
Check dogs in and out and communicate with clients about their pets’ stay
Receive and document payments using specialized software
Relay dog-specific needs or incidents to the Manager in a timely manner
Maintain a clean, safe, and enriching environment for dogs and staff
Provide enrichment activities to promote positive behavior and reduce stress
Complete routine cleaning and shift-specific tasks
Perform any and all other duties to support the team and ensure quality care
Qualifications:
Experience working with dogs in a group setting preferred
Strong understanding of canine behavior and safe handling techniques
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes and temperaments
Must be able to stand for long periods, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds
Availability on weekends and holidays is required.
Must be flexible, as shift end times may vary, as working with live animals and clients can be unpredictable.
Pay & Schedule
Pay Range:
$20 – $25 per hour
Based on experience and responsibilities
Seasonal Position with the opportunity to remain employed year-round
Weekly Hours:
Up to 25 hours per week
Shift Structure:
Shifts are split (morning & afternoon)
Single-shift applicants will be considered
Weekly Schedule
Monday – Friday:
Morning Shift: 7:45 AM – 10:00 AM
Afternoon Shift: 3:45 PM – 6:00 PM
Saturday:
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Afternoon Shift: Starts between 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM *Flexible – start time agreed upon by team, work for a 2-hour shift
Sunday:
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Afternoon Shift: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Bedtime Let-Out Shifts:
Optional late-night shift for bedtime bathroom break
Start time is flexible between 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM
Paid for a 1-hour minimum
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 25 per week
