Introduction
Brandywine Creek State Park is divided by grey stone walls that were built of local stone in the late 1800s, when the property was a dairy farm owned by the du Pont family. Three Nature preserves are located within the park, including:
Tulip Tree Woods, a majestic stand of 190-year-old tulip poplar, and Freshwater Marsh, the first nature preserve in Delaware. The area became a state park in 1965. Â for more information about Brandywine Creek State Park.
Summary Statement
A variety of seasonal Naturalist Park positions may be available at Brandywine Creek State Park:
Park Naturalist:($15.00) – responsible for developing and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the student’s and visitor’s awareness of their surrounding environment and foster theappreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Delaware State Parks’ cultural and natural resources.
Day Camp Director:($16.25) – responsible for planning and coordinating activities for summer camp. Creating and maintaining a fun, positive, and safe camp environment for campers and staff.
Assistant Camp Director:($15.50) – Assists with planning and coordinating activities for Summer camp, helps maintain a fun, positive, safe camp environment for campers and staff.
Day Camp Counselor:($15.00) – responsible for organizing and supervising camp activities and ensuring campers’ well-being.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Weekends, evenings, and holidays are scheduled to meet facility needs. For Camp positions – Monday through Friday will be needed throughout the camp season. Additional work on weekends, evenings and holidays may be scheduled.
Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.
May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
Distributes interpretive publications.
May lead educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors and/or summer camps.
May develop new games and activities.
Ensure a fun, educational and safe environment for children.
May assist with First-Aid duties.
May supervise and mentor summer camp team.
May lead daily summer camper activities, such as teaching, crafts, games, etc.
Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.
Includes live animal care and handling.
Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and goodcommunication skills.
Maintain apositive attitude.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Park Naturalist
Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.
Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
Knowledge of natural history, anthropology, entomology, ornithology, cultural history, recreation science, and/or ecology.
Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
