Role Description This is a full-time hybrid Bioinformatician role based in Baghdad, with the flexibility to perform some duties from home. The Bioinformatician will design and implement bioinformatics pipelines to process and analyze sequencing and other biological data. Daily tasks include performing statistical and computational analyses, interpreting DNA sequencing results, and generating clear, reproducible reports and visualizations for research teams and educational projects. The role involves collaborating with researchers and educators to support study design, data quality control, and methodology selection, as well as documenting workflows and maintaining databases and code repositories. The Bioinformatician will also contribute to training materials, provide technical guidance on data analysis best practices, and stay current with advances in bioinformatics tools and methods.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Statistics and Data Analysis, with the ability to apply appropriate statistical methods to biological datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with Sequencing and DNA Sequencing workflows, including data preprocessing, quality assessment, and downstream analysis.
  • Proven Research skills, including experimental design support, literature review, and clear documentation of methods and results.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R) and familiarity with relevant tools and databases.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment in Baghdad, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git), reproducible research practices, and data privacy and ethical standards in handling biological data is beneficial.
