BILINGUAL VETERINARY ASSISTANT/CLIENT SERVICES SUPPORT
POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Registered Veterinary Technician/Surgery Supervisor, and general supervision of the Clinic Manager, performs Clinic-cleaning duties, assists with animal receiving and discharge, assists in preparing Clinic and animals for surgery and other duties related to the animals in the Clinic’s care and the maintenance of the Clinic facility and equipment.

Under supervision of the Clinic Manager, acts for the primary point of contact for patients/clients during surgery check-in and/or check-out and includes general Clinic front desk responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Veterinary Assistant
– Clean and disinfect surgical and animal areas as necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary environment to promote disease control.
– Clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
-Wash, dry, inspect, fold and store laundry.
– Assist with restraint of animals for intubation, injections and blood sample collection.
– Monitors animals under anesthesia and recovering from surgery which includes extracting endotrachial tubes.
– Assists in the intake and release of Clinic patients interacting with contract clients’ representatives and the public.
– Assists with orienting, training, and supervising volunteers.
– Segregates and isolates animals as necessary to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
– Responsible for cleaning after, feeding, and watering animals in the Clinic’s care.- Provides support for vaccination clinic by safely restraining animals and assisting in blood sample collection, vaccinations, and microchipping.
– Responsible for maintaining the stock of non-medical supplies.
– Responsible for routine maintenance projects of the Clinic which include, but are not limited to, floor sanitation, sanitation of toilet room, grounds maintenance, dusting and window cleaning.
– Responsible for trash removal

Client Services Support

· Provides excellent customer service, manages patient/client contact during surgery check-in and check-out, scheduling of appointments, and sales of flea and tick control products.

· Assists with orienting, training, and supervising volunteers.

· Responsible for cash handling and record keeping as it relates to the above daily Clinic activities.

General Clinic Support

· Using one’s private vehicle, local (reimbursed) travel required for bank deposits, clinic supply purchases, mailing letters and parcels, and the like.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bilingual English/Spanish

· Verification of legal right to work in the United States.

· Possession of a valid California driver license.

· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

· Experience in an animal care setting, i.e. a shelter setting or veterinary clinic preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical efforts require prolonged standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and assist in the lifting and/or moving of up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

SUMMARY OF ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

· Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions during both daylight and after dark.

· Frequent exposure to loud noise, odors, fumes, chemicals and animal waste.

· Walks on paved and unpaved surfaces and flooring that may be uneven and may be wet or dry.

· Exposure to controlled substances, needles, syringes and other supplies used in the pre- and post-operative treatment and the vaccination of animals.

· Exposure to animals that are agitated that may attempt to bite or scratch.

This is a full-time position. Applicants should be available to work Monday through Friday.

Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
