Part-Time Veterinarian (HQHVSN/General Surgeon)
We’re Nuzzles & Co, a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill organization located in Summit County, Utah. In 1990, a group of volunteers founded our organization to find homes for animals in need. Since then, we have found homes for nearly 30,000 pets. Our mission is to protect animals — to provide a loving, nurturing place where they can get healthy and learn positive behaviors and then to find loving homes for each one of them.
The perfect candidate would:
- Perform sterilization surgeries on all cats and dogs in a high-quality/high-volume setting
- Perform other surgical procedures (enucleations, amputations, abdominal exploratories, dentistries, etc.) as needed to improve the quality of life of an animal
- Provide exceptional medical care for cats and dogs in our shelter and for community members’ pets
- Perform diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, interpreting radiographs and laboratory results if needed prior to or after surgery
- See post-op patients if needed for surgical follow-up
- Uphold the highest standards of professionalism
Other skills we are looking for:
- Compassion and understanding towards pet owners who may be facing financial hardships
- Understand the access-to-care model of providing veterinary services for community members who may have trouble accessing veterinary care due to financial or transportation barriers
- Knowledge of shelter medicine and best practices in animal sheltering, including ASV guidelines.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, volunteers and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to perform well under stress in an emotional and fast paced environment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others, with a sense of humor, even when it gets busy.
- Acquire and possess a thorough understanding of and dedication to the philosophies of animal welfare and rescue.
- Commitment to staying current on new medical information and changes within the profession.
Required Education, Certification and Licensing, and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of veterinary medicine; Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent required.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Utah.
- Additional training in shelter medicine (i.e. graduate certificate, board certification) a bonus.
- Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter preferred.

- This is a contracted position with an hourly rate of $70/hour

Scheduling/Hours
- Work onsite at the veterinary medical suite located inside our adoption center location at Junction Commons in Park City for 9 to 27 hours per week ( ie. 9:00 am to 5:30pm 1 to 3 days per week) with support of 2 to 3 technicians and an administrative assistant.
