Assistant Dog Trainer
Role Overview
As an Assistant Dog Trainer, you will be responsible for assisting in the training and daily care of all animals at the American Standard Dog Training facility. This position works with our trainers and technicians to provide a healthy environment for the animals in our care. The position is onsite in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities
Dog Training Support:
Assist in the hands-on training for all breeds, ages, and weaknesses. Assists in the initial evaluation of dogs [areas of strengths and weakness] Will subscribe to balanced training Works cooperatively with other Trainers.
Daily Animal Care:
Ensure the health, safety, and comfort of dogs in our care by providing feeding, grooming, and maintaining clean kennel and training areas. Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to staff.
Exercise and Playtime:
Engage dogs in physical activities and play sessions, ensuring they receive the necessary exercise and social interaction.
Cleaning, Maintenance, and Sanitization:
Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by regularly cleaning kennels, play areas, and shared spaces. Maintain equipment to complete job assignments and keep such equipment and tools in good working condition. Notifying management about major repairs or new equipment necessary to complete assignments adequately. Keep equipment and tools in proper storage areas and label them according to the specified room.
Medication Administration:
Follow prescribed medication instructions for dogs requiring special care or treatment.
Observation and Reporting:
Monitor the behavior and health of dogs, promptly reporting any concerns or issues to supervisory staff.
Adherence to Policies:
Follow company standards to maintain the highest levels of care.
Qualifications And Key Competencies
Experience in the care, handling, and training of dogs under the mentorship of an established trainer, particularly in a kennel or pet care setting, is required.
Must have a genuine love and passion for dogs and their well-being.
Must be confident, assertive, but most of all, willing to learn and adapt to our ways of working with the dogs
Must be willing to subscribe to balanced training and be open to training on bite work and
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable transportation to the Waxhaw, North Carolina, location.
Availability to work 15-20 hours per week, with flexibility for 1-2 shifts per day.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must be highly reliable.
Additional Requirements
Physical Stamina:
The Assistant Dog Trainer should be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying dogs of various sizes and performing tasks that may require physical endurance.
Animal Handling
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to safely and confidently handle dogs of all temperaments and sizes.
CPR/First Aid Certification:
It s a plus if candidates have CPR and First Aid certification for pets or are willing to obtain it.
Basic Medical Knowledge:
Familiarity with common canine health issues and the ability to recognize and respond to emergencies
