The Forestry Division is now accepting applications for Arborist I and Arborist II candidates. Arborist I employees perform work of routine difficulty in pruning, planting, maintenance and assisting with removal of trees for the City; maintains and handles nursery trees.  Arborist II employees perform work of moderate to extreme difficulty in pruning, removing, and maintaining of trees for the City.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled Arborist that possesses excellent interpersonal

communication

and

teamwork

skills, as well as the ability to work without direct supervision. Applicants must possess the knowledge, skills and ability to perform tree pruning, treatment, maintenance, and removal methods as well as knowledge of tree identification and safety practices.  The individual must have the ability to work at heights.

This position will work in all outdoor environments.

Hiring Range:  $25.43- $30.58/hour dependent upon qualifications.  Placement as an Arborist I or II will be dependent upon qualifications.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.

– 2:30 p.m. (40 hours/week), plus additional hours as required.

No residency requirement.

Arborist I:

* Digs, plants, prunes, loads, unloads trees. Waters and fertilizes nursery trees. Transports trees to planting site including ball and burlap trees. Picks up trees from privately owned nurseries.

* Prepares tree planting sites. Plants, fertilizes, waters, stakes, and mulches new trees.

* Performs landscaping and prunes small trees along streets and in parks.

* Assists Arborist II’s with tree pruning and removal.  Chips wood, loads and unloads wood, assists with rope work. Hauls and dumps wood chips.

* Spreads wood chips under trees.

* Performs stump removal and site restoration.

* Directs traffic and sets up work safety zones at work site.

* Operates various hand tools and related equipment including: skid steer loader, stump cutter, root cutter, winch truck, snow plow, tractor, snow blower, brush chipper, chain saw, various trucks and equipment.

* Performs basic routine maintenance of all equipment operated. Loads and unloads equipment. Refuels and adjusts chain saws.

* May oversee seasonal maintenance employees.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Arborist II:

* Maintains and removes trees using rope and saddle and aerial bucket truck.

* Performs tree pruning in accordance to ANSI 300 pruning standards to provide a healthy, safe, and aesthetically pleasing urban forest.

* Participates in tree planting throughout the City in the rights of way, parks, and at the Forestry division nursery.
