Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to serve as a Aquarist and Custodian. This role involves the daily care, observation, feeding, maintenance, and basic husbandry of LazyPaw’s aquarium systems and fish populations while also cleaning and maintaining the building. The ideal candidate will combine routine aquarium maintenance with active animal observation to ensure a healthy and thriving aquatic environment. This position requires attention to detail, proactive problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform minor repairs and cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and functional facility.
Duties
- Perform daily cleaning of the building and aquarium systems to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Conduct routine maintenance of aquariums, including water changes, equipment checks, and cleaning.
- Observe fish populations regularly to monitor their health, behavior, and environmental conditions.
- Recognize normal appearance and behavior of aquatic animals; identify any changes or signs of distress promptly.
- Follow established husbandry protocols for feeding, observing, and caring for aquatic life.
- Maintain clean and stable aquarium systems by performing necessary repairs or reporting issues for prompt resolution.
- Assist with minor repairs around the facility to support overall maintenance needs.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed during all maintenance activities.
Experience
- Prior experience in animal husbandry, aquarium maintenance, or related fields is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
- Basic knowledge of aquarium systems and fish care is advantageous.
- Ability to perform minor repairs and cleaning tasks efficiently.
- Strong observational skills with attention to detail in monitoring animal health and environmental conditions.
- Good communication skills for reporting observations or issues effectively.
- Ability to work independently while following established protocols in a team environment.
