Position Overview

The Washington National Primate Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Animal Technician 1 to join their team based in Arizona.

Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to support biomedical research focused on human health issues and nonhuman primate health and biology. Our mission values link this position to our purpose as a Center:

This position reports directly to the Animal Technician Supervisor at the Arizona Breeding Colony (ABC) of WaNPRC.

Responsibilities

Perform animal care duties, including custodial care for animals and facilities.

Feed and water animals according to prescribed diets and instructions.

Transfer animals between enclosures, maintaining individual identification, and prepare animal quarters.

Transfer animals from outdoor to indoor enclosures.

Clean and sterilize cages, pans, runs, and surrounding areas following specified procedures.

Observe animals for abnormalities and report findings.

Maintain records related to feeding, care, and identification.

May lift heavy animals, cages, supplies, or equipment.

Maintain equipment and premises, ensuring environmental conditions remain within standards, and report deviations.

Minimum Requirements

Physical ability to perform required work and ability to read and write English.

Additional Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Willingness to work with personal protective equipment, including face shields, masks, gloves, lab clothing, and booties.

Desired Qualifications

Employment is contingent upon successful health assessment, including tuberculosis and immunizations, and may require working with infectious agents and wearing protective gear. Punctuality and regular attendance are essential.
