The Animal Services Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) is a key team member directly involved in the care, monitoring, and management of all animals at the Animal Services facility, particularly those in need of medical evaluation and treatment.
Job responsibilities include the performance of routine and preventative health measures such as the administration of vaccinations, microchips, and prescribed medications. Under veterinary direction, the RVT also establishes treatment plans for sheltered animals with common medical conditions, performs dental cleanings and extractions, and may assist with minor surgical procedures.
The RVT serves as Animal Services’ primary liaison with community veterinary care facilities, ensuring continuity of care for injured or ill stray animals and the provision of more extensive diagnostics and surgical procedures for sheltered animals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Possession of a valid license as a Registered Veterinary Technician by the State of California is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment.
Licenses and Certificates
Must be currently licensed in good standing as a Registered Veterinary Technician with the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
Note: Proof of licensure/certification must be submitted at the time of application.
Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Other Conditions of Employment:
Employees must be willing and able to respond to calls for service after normal hours and to on-call emergency requests on nights, weekends, and holidays.
