Animal Protection Officer Jobs in League City, Texas, USA at City Of League City
Under supervision of the Animal Protection Lead, Animal Services Supervisor, and Animal Services Manager, the Animal Protection Officer enforces animal protection laws and ordinances for the City through investigation and the patrolling of the City of League City. Acts as a representative of the City in the field and in shelter. Operates the Pet Resource Center to provide options for individuals needing rehoming assistance, pet pantry & pet retention supplies, lost/found pet services, and more.
Performs work in the League City Animal Care Center to include care and maintenance of animals and grounds while humanely following City policy, City ordinances and State of Texas laws. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and provide a high level of pleasant, professional service to all visitors, staff, and volunteers. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work independently, follow all health and safety guidelines, and enthusiastically contribute to the professional culture and mission of the League City Animal Care team.
This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Humanely handle all animals using Fear Free procedures and use positive reinforcement techniques as trained, including animals which may be ill, injured, quarantined, or aggressive while utilizing established animal control equipment and techniques.
Respond to calls from citizens about domestic animal ordinance violations while building trust in the community through a message that balancescommunity engagementwith enforcement.
Enforce all animal control laws and ordinances.
Investigate animal neglect, cruelty, hoarding, and intentional acts of abuse, as well as dangerous and vicious dog cases.
Perform preliminary investigation of animal cruelty complaints.
Provide clear, concise and professional testimony in court.
Oversee rabies quarantines and investigate all animal bites to a human.
Record clear, concise, and objective notes on all cases, field activities, and animal records.
Support community cat programs (TNR and SNR) and mitigate complaints about outdoor and free-roaming cats.
Capture and impound domestic animals found at large in the City, including during extreme weather or weather-related events.
Rescue lost and stray animals that are sick, injured or in immediate danger.
Capture high-risk rabies vector or venomous animals safely and dispose of them according to policy.
Assist pet owners who are in crisis, including incarceration and evictions, and pet owners experiencing homelessness.
Prevent unnecessary shelter intake by effectively addressing an individual’s barriers to pet retention and connecting them with the resources that will enable them to keep their pet in the home.
Assist the public with information regarding humane pet ownership.
Assist with pet reunification and rehoming by informing and assisting citizens with Rehoming and Lost/Found Pet registries.
Manage welfare cases and sick or injured wildlife, exotic animals, and farmed animals.
Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked workspace, including assigned vehicles or any shared spaces.
Provide local transport to pets using City owned vehicles.
Prepare work reports and maintain records for all impounded, released, or euthanized animals.
