Position: Animal Control Officer I
This position performs work in the enforcement of local and state laws and ordinances regulating the keeping, control, and protection of animals within the county; investigates and answers citizens’ requests relating to animals; issues appropriate warning notices and citations; captures animals using specialized animal capture equipment and techniques; participates in the rabies program and will assist with scheduled clinics; operates and maintains county animal shelter;
completes documentation, records, files, and reports; and performs related tasks as required. The work schedule requires rotation of on-call weekend duty to cover emergencies and to maintain the animal shelter.
Responsibilities
- Enforce local and state laws and ordinances regulating the keeping, control, and protection of animals within the county.
- Investigate and answer citizens’ requests relating to animals.
- Issue appropriate warning notices and citations.
- Capture animals using specialized animal capture equipment and techniques.
- Participate in the rabies program and assist with scheduled clinics.
- Operate and maintain the county animal shelter.
- Complete documentation, records, files, and reports.
- Work on a rotation of on-call weekend duty to cover emergencies and to maintain the animal shelter.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school and one year of experience as an animal control officer, security officer, or related law enforcement role; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to get an annual flu shot vaccine as part of condition of employment.
