Position Overview:
Under general supervision of the Director, this position is responsible for the daily care of all animals in the facility. The positions conducts proper cleaning and disinfecting of all cages to provide a healthy environment for the animals in our care. This position may be scheduled weekends and holidays.
Essential Job Functions:
Thoroughly clean and disinfect all animal holding areas.
Responsible for daily feeding and monitoring eating habits of dogs and cats.
Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness and disease.
Utilize animal handling skills to provide safe and friendly environment.
Treat minor injuries and illnesses of animals.
Assist the public in finding pet owners/homes.
Assist in the daily maintenance of the animal shelter.
Vaccinating, microchipping and testing animals.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Aggressive animal handling skills
Ability to work with animals at varying levels of behavior, including aggressive animals.
General knowledge of animal health and welfare.
Ability to follow instructions
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, or equivalent
Prior animal shelter experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Animal Control Credentials
Valid driver’s license from state of residency
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
This position requires working with animals and outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. The position entails working in situations that may expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock or mechanical hazards. Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, crawling, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily activities. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles, work in heavy construction areas and often work with constant interruptions. Must be able to life and handle all sizes, weights and temperaments of dogs. Must be able to lift greater than 50lbs or more.
