Position: Animal Control Facility Attendant I
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Animal Control Officer, performs a variety of duties related to animal care and handling. Cleans the Animal Shelter Facility and responds to and directs public inquiries, both by telephone and in person.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Feed, water and care for animals while in care at the shelter;
Handle livestock, injured and diseased animals, and transport accordingly;
Clean the Animal Shelter, maintaining a high level of sanitation throughout;
Evening, weekend and on-call work required;
Provide reception duties for the Animal Shelter and dealing with the public in a friendly and proficient manner;
Other related duties, as required
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Secondary school graduation;
Minimum of one year’s related experience in the care and handling of vicious, feral and domestic stray animals;
Demonstrated ability to work with, and genuine caring for animals and livestock;
Demonstrated ability to operate related vehicles and equipment;
Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment, with Word and Excel;
Janitorial experience;
Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public;
Good written and oral communication skills;
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence.
