Position: Animal Caretaker NA-03.
- Receives and shelters animals brought to the veterinarian clinic for treatment, temporary care or disposal, and observes them, notifying the supervisor of any abnormal appearance.
- Feeds animals, taking care to measure food portions according to feeding instructions, keeps records on animals in the facility, and assists other workers to restrain and treat animals.
- Cleans and disinfects animal feeding utensils and pen areas, maintains stock of cleaning materials and other items used, and mows grass and cleans the yard of animal litter.
- Clears drains and runs, empties garbage, and may be required to operate a motor vehicle to transport supplies and laboratory samples.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
- Meet the qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one‑year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfy an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
- Satisfactorily complete pre‑employment background checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, para. 2, including a Tier 1 background investigation.
- Frequently lift and carry items and animals weighing over 70 pounds; moderate effort is required to operate power washing and mowing equipment.
- Complete a pre‑employment physical, including applicable immunizations and vaccinations.
- Be exposed to unpleasant odors and noises, animal bites, scratches, and contagious diseases; may be required to wear protective equipment.
- Must be available to work mornings, days, evenings, and holidays.
Additional Qualifications
- Be physically able to lift and carry heavy items weighing over 70 pounds.
- Stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Be able to follow complex written instructions.
- Be able to maintain animal care records.
- Experience in animal care or related fields must be clearly listed on the resume.
