The Zoology Foundation at Crooked Willow Farms is a non-profit animal sanctuary. Our mission is to inspire positive connections between people, animals, and the environment through education and by providing sanctuary to animals. We are located in Larkspur, Colorado.
We are home to up to 90 animals including but not limited to: a variety of farm animals and ectotherms. We also have domestic cats, ferrets and rabbits. We host public tours as well as support some adult programs.
We are USDA regulated and hold ourselves to the highest of standards for all aspects of animal care.
Summary Statement: The purpose of the position is to provide care and maintain the health and welfare of the animals at the Zoology Foundation’s sanctuary. Public interface is also an element that we support. Though not required, if the employee has an interest in leading guest experiences including tours and interacting with our adult programs, that is a plus.
This is a that requires working in all environmental elements. We have a small staff and depend on everyone to be extremely reliable.
Reports to: General manager and Team Lead
Job Responsibilities broad overview:
Daily feeding, cleaning, and watering of the animals
Clean zoo building and other onsite facilities
Observe behavior and complete logs for each animal to monitor health
Provide enrichment for all animals at the zoo
Socialize new and existing animals at the zoo
Groom animals – includes brushing, nail trimming, etc.
Detailed record keeping
Medication administration as needed (will be trained on oral and subcutaneous administrations)
Keep up with current best care practices and USDA standards for the animals at the zoo
Transportation of animals to veterinary appointment using Zoology vehicles
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Background in animal care required. Example: kennel work, barn work, sanctuary/zoo experience
Must be able to work with hay, straw, shavings
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
Must be willing to be active and on your feet for long periods of time
Must be willing to drive company box van
Must have reliable transportation and able and willing to drive in snow

Job Type: Full time
The work schedule is in-person, Wednesday through Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays off. This schedule is non-negotiable but subject to change mid-summer but will still require weekends. As in all animal care, we care for our animals 365 days/year and there will be situations that you will be asked work longer to provide for the animals care but you will be compensated for any over-time.
Pay: $18.00/hour to start, increase after positive probationary period
Expected hours: 37.5 – 40 hours per week
