Job Summary:
Job Summary:
Performs routine and specialized tasks associated with animal care, including feeding, administering medications, and maintaining cleanliness. Manages the inventory of necessary supplies and equipment. Maintains precise records and inventories related to animal care. Observes animal behavior and health, collects samples, and provides technical assistance to research and veterinary personnel. Carries out minor equipment repairs and ensures the animal housing facility meets established standards. Trains others in the proper handling and care of research animals. Advocates for the welfare of research animals. Completes additional duties as needed to comply with USDA, OLAW, and local regulations.
Environmental Hazard:
Exposure to animal dander & excrements; exposure to dust & timothy hay; compressed gases.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Exceptional Working Conditions:
Regular interaction with mice and rats, along with potential exposure to rodent allergens and cleaning agents.
Continuous physical activity including bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and standing throughout the work shift, as well as the repetitive lifting and moving of objects.
Work hours may extend beyond the standard 8 am to 5 pm schedule from Monday to Friday, requiring additional attention to animal care during weekends, holidays, and after hours on a rotating basis with the animal care team.

Education & Experience
Position Qualifications:
Requirements:
High School/GED
Experience in caring for animals.
A valid driver’s license.
Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge:
Fundamental knowledge of regulations related to animal research is essential.
Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and various database systems.
Written and verbal communication skills must consistently be clear and succinct, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of professionals and students.
Demonstrated reliability and attention to detail, along with exceptional organizational skills, are necessary for managing multiple projects concurrently.
Capability to uphold professional standards while working under strict and unavoidable time constraints, along with independent problem-solving skills, is often required.
Preferred:
A Bachelor’s Degree.
A degree in a scientific field, including chemical, biological, or animal sciences.
Registered Veterinary Technician, or similar.
Prior animal care experience in a lab setting.
