West Valley Humane Society is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and compassionate Animal Care Attendant (ACA) to join our team. This role demands consistent attendance, punctuality, and a strong commitment to both animal welfare and team success. ACAs are vital to ensuring the health, comfort, and well-being of animals in our care. Responsibilities include daily animal husbandry such as cleaning, feeding, enrichment, and/or supporting other departments while maintaining a safe, sanitary environment.

The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent time management, a strong work ethic, with the ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced, mentally and physically demanding environment. The work involves repetitive motion, frequent lifting, exposure to mess and odor, and the ability to stay on your feet for long periods.

Availability:

WVHS houses and cares for animals 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays. Reliability, availability and a willingness to work a flexible schedule are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain all animal housing areas (kennels, catteries, outdoor spaces, etc.) to ensure a sanitary and welcoming environment while following a daily schedule.
  • Feed animals, provide enrichment and exercise, and administer medications when required.
  • Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist the public in safely interacting with animals and provide support for customer service, adoptions, intake, and medical clinic as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping such as laundry, dishes, and other tasks. Uphold a clean, safe, and positive environment for animals, staff, and shelter visitors.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Dedication to animal welfare and a strong team-oriented mindset
  • Previous experience in animal care, kennel operations, veterinary clinics, farm/ranch operations, or related fields preferred
  • Knowledge of basic animal care, handling, and behavior in a professional setting
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Physical and mental stamina to perform strenuous tasks.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • Must not have allergic conditions aggravated by animals or cleaning agents
  • High school diploma/ G.E.D.

Work is performed in an animal shelter and animal clinic setting. You will be regularly exposed to varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet), loud noise, strong odors, cleaning chemicals, and animals with unpredictable temperaments. This is a labor-intensive role requiring a high level of physical activity, mental focus, and emotional resilience.

Exempt/Non-exempt: This is a non-exempt full time or part-time position.

***Must be at least 18 years of age.

Immediate Supervisor: Animal Care Manager and/or Shift Lead

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is not supervisory in nature.
