Role description
We are looking for a full-time, on-site Animal Care Assistant to join our dog shelter near Nafplio, Greece.
This is a practical, hands-on role focused on the daily care, health and wellbeing of the dogs in our shelter. You will support feeding, cleaning and hygiene, administer prescribed medications, monitor the dogs’ condition and assist the shelter team with their everyday care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily care for dogs housed at the shelter
- Prepare and distribute food according to feeding instructions and individual dietary requirements
- Clean and maintain kennels and other animal-care areas
- Maintain appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards throughout the shelter
- Administer prescribed medications according to established treatment instructions
- Monitor dogs’ health, behaviour, appetite, mobility and general condition
- Assist with handling and safely restraining dogs when required
- Prepare dogs for veterinary appointments and assist with examinations or treatments when needed
- Follow hygiene, infection-control and animal-welfare procedures
- Support the team with other practical animal-care duties as required
Who we are looking for
- Comfortable and confident working hands-on with dogs every day
- Previous experience in animal care, shelters, rescue work, kennels, veterinary environments or a related field is preferred
- Basic understanding of dog health, behaviour and welfare
- Able to handle physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and safely restraining animals, while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.
- Willing to perform cleaning and hygiene duties as a core part of the role
- Working proficiency in English is required. Greek and/or German would be an advantage but are not mandatory.
- Valid driving licence
